Oct 27 ∙ Parent & Booster’s Update

Concessions, Fundraising, Upcoming Events & More

Good afternoon Band Parents,

We have a lot of things going on in the next few weeks and the Band Booster Board wants to highlight a number of them so we can all successfully wrap-up this challenging 2020 marching band season.

Friday, October 30 - Home football game against Bradwell Institute and HOMECOMING!

With Homecoming being held this Friday, we are going to need even more volunteers for the concession stands than usual. Each parent is responsible for participating in two (2) volunteer activities and, with the season getting close to the end, we need your help. Please visit https://www.statesborohighband.com/volunteer and sign up to volunteer to help with concessions for this Friday's Homecoming, which promises to be one of the biggest games of the year. All the proceeds from concession sales go to support the band, which is in desperate need of new uniforms. Come out this Friday, wear your SHS Blue for the BLUE OUT Homecoming game against Bradwell, and help us support the band program!

NOTE: The marching band will be performing their halftime show IMMEDIATELY AFTER the football game, due to all the homecoming activities. This means even parent volunteers will be able to see the show, so there is no reason not to sign up!!!

More football and volunteer opportunitiesWhile we are all a bit disappointed that we were unable to host the East Georgia Marching Band Championships this year, we still need your help to finish out the season strong. If you cannot make it to the football game this Friday, there are two more home games this season where we will need volunteers:

  • November 13 - Effingham County

  • November 20 - Glynn Academy

Both of these games promise to have good sized crowds as Effingham in our next door neighbor and Glynn Academy typically travels with a good crowd. If you have not already logged your volunteer hours, please sign up to work at two of the three remaining games of the season. Sign up on the SHS Band website: https://www.statesborohighband.com/volunteer

Holiday Sheet Sales
It's that time of year again - the annual SHS Band Sheet Sale! This has traditionally been a big fundraiser for the band and this year students can use some of the proceeds from each sale to go toward the purchase of a SHS Band Jacket (more on jackets in the next section). Linked below is the order form as well as a sheet showing the available sizes and 14 available colors. Each set is only $40 - regardless of size. Since it takes about two weeks for delivery and we want to ensure that everyone gets their sheet order well before the holidays, order forms will be due by November 13. Please make sure that any checks are written out to: Statesboro Band Boosters. $5 from each set sold can be used by the band member to purchase a band jacket. Download Forms >

Speaking of band jackets
Statesboro High Band jackets are available to any band member who is in their 2nd year (or more) with the marching band program. Members must be in good standing (all fees paid) and must have completed one full year in the marching band in order to be eligible to purchase a jacket. As we mentioned before, $5 from each set of sheets sold can be used to purchase a jacket - the cost of which will be $60. More information about the band jackets will be available at the next band parent meeting. Order Now >

Upcoming meetings
Band booster meeting - November 3rd at 6 PM
Full band parent meeting - November 10t at 5:30 PM. In person in SHS auditorium or via Zoom (link will be sent out Monday, November 9th)

THANK YOU
I want to take the opportunity to say a huge THANK YOU to the entire band booster board, who has been dealing with all the craziness related to the COVID pandemic - cancellations, reschedulings, rearranging activities, changes to websites, concessions - ALL OF IT. Each week has presented itself with a new set of challenges, and I want all the band parents to know how hard the board has worked despite the lack of competitions, away games, and even EGRMC.

I also want to say THANK YOU to the parents who have come out to volunteer their time so far - we would not have been able to operate the concessions stands without you.

And I want to say THANK YOU to Lee, Sergio, and his team of directors and instructors who have had to maintain a positive attitude and keep our kids engaged during this challenging year. The best way to say thank you to them would be to come out to the game this Friday, stay for the marching band performance after the game, and cheer as loudly as you can for our students (while wearing a mask and maintaining social distance, of course). We have good kids and they deserve it, especially our seniors.

See you all Friday! GO BLUE DEVILS!
