Lee Collins, Director of Bands

Lee Collins, an esteemed music educator, embarked on his journey at Statesboro High School in 2012 and is now proudly in his 25th year of directing high school bands. After graduating from Valdosta State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education in 1999, Mr. Collins continued his pursuit of excellence by earning a Master’s degree in Music Technology from Georgia Southern University in 2009.

Under Mr. Collins' guidance, the marching and concert bands at Statesboro High School have consistently garnered superior ratings at festivals and competitions. Notably, his inaugural appearance with the Marching Blue Devil Band saw them representing Georgia in the prestigious 2012 Fourth of July parade in Washington, D.C.

Prior to his tenure at Statesboro High School, Mr. Collins served as the Director of Bands at Tattnall County High School for 13 years. During his time there, both the concert and marching bands achieved remarkable success, consistently earning superior and excellent ratings at regional and area festivals and competitions. Notably, Mr. Collins initiated a Steel Drum Band at Tattnall County High School, which had the honor of opening for Darius Rucker at Fort Stewart's Fourth of July Celebration in 2010.

Furthermore, Mr. Collins has shared his expertise as a clinician at the Georgia Music Educators’ In-Service Convention in Savannah, GA. He is an active member of the Georgia Music Educators‘ Association and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. Additionally, Mr. Collins serves as the current GMEA District 1 organizer for the High School Large Group Performance Evaluation.

Mr. Collins resides in Statesboro, Georgia, with his wife, Rhyne, and their three children, Nolen, Katelyn, and Molly. His dedication to music education and commitment to excellence continue to inspire students and colleagues alike, culminating in his well-deserved recognition as the 2024 Georgia Music Educators Association District 1 Music Educator of the Year.

 

Sergio Arreguin, Assistant Director of Bands/Chorus

Sergio G. Arreguin, Assistant Director of Bands and Director of Chorus and Guitar at Statesboro High School is a dynamic musician and educator deeply rooted in both performance and instruction. Holding a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Georgia Southern University and currently pursuing his Masters in Music Performance at the same institution, Arreguin's dedication to music is unmatched.

Beyond his role at Statesboro High School, Arreguin is a prolific performer, lending his talent to multiple local bands as a professional percussionist. His expertise extends further as he is also a highly sought-after percussion clinician and judge, sharing his knowledge and insights with aspiring musicians across various platforms.

Arreguin's impact as a percussion instructor is undeniable, having left a lasting impression at institutions such as Georgia Southern University, Statesboro High School, and Toombs County High School. His percussion ensembles consistently garner superior ratings at marching competitions statewide, a testament to his commitment to excellence.

Arreguin's musical prowess has graced renowned stages, including a professional recorded performance of Ney Rosauro’s Vibraphone Concerto No. 2 alongside Ney Rosauro himself. Notably, he showcased his talents on The Late Show with David Letterman in New York City alongside country music artist Elizabeth Cook and fellow members of the Southern Pride Marching Band.

A devoted member of the Georgia Music Educators Association and Kappa Kappa Psi, Arreguin finds fulfillment in both playing percussion instruments and sharing his expertise through education and adjudication. Whether performing, teaching, or judging, his passion for music shines through, inspiring students and colleagues alike at Statesboro High School and beyond.
